Kawane

 Shizuoka prefecture is the biggest tea production
area in Japan but most of tea plantation are collated in the south part which is flat land. On the other hand, there are some small tea production area in the north mountain area.

 Tea in the north area and the south are in contrast to
each other. Tea leaf in the south is thicker and good
for deep steamed and tea color is deep green. Tea leaf
in the north is thinner and good for light steamed and
tea color is light yellow green.

 Kawane area is the oldest tea plantation area in the
north mountain side. The 1 st record about it was
written in the beginning of 17 th century but tea
plantation must have been started before.

 Tea plantations in Kawane are small and specialized to premium class as like wineries in COTE D’OR of
Bourgogne, France.
